Day 1 – Hanoi – Arrival
Upon landing at Noi Bai International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by your expert local guide and driver at the arrivals terminal. Relax on a comfortable private transfer straight into the heart of the city to check into your hotel. The remainder of the afternoon and evening is yours to enjoy completely at your leisure. Take this time to rest after your flight, or step out to capture your very first glimpses of Hanoi’s vibrant, historic streets before your overnight stay.
Day 2: Hanoi sightseeing
Discover Hanoi, a captivating capital where tree-lined boulevards and French colonial architecture blend seamlessly with peaceful lakes and ancient oriental temples. We begin at Ba Dinh Square to visit the solemn Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, walking alongside locals paying respects to “Uncle Ho.” Nearby, we explore his simple stilt house and the abstract Ho Chi Minh Museum, a tribute to his life and Vietnam’s independence, before viewing the iconic One Pillar Pagoda. Next, step back in time at the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first national university dating back to 1070.
Following lunch, we visit Hoa Lo Prison. Built by the French in 1896 and later ironically nicknamed the “Hanoi Hilton” by American POWs, its preserved front section serves as a powerful museum today. We then embark on a guided walking tour through the labyrinthine streets of the bustling Old Quarter and Dong Xuan Market. Dating back to 1010, this trading hub features 36 streets named after traditional crafts—such as Hang Gai for silk and Hang Bac for silver. Wrap up the day with a traditional Water Puppet Performance, a unique 11th-century art form where puppeteers manipulate figures over a pool of water.
Day 3: Hanoi- Hoa Lu- Tam Coc – Bich Dong Pagoda
Following breakfast, we head south from Hanoi into the dramatic landscapes of Ninh Binh Province. Our first destination is Hoa Lu, Vietnam’s ancient 10th-century capital. Serving as the country’s political heart for 41 years, it was once a grand citadel filled with golden palaces, pagodas, and pavilions. While time and weather have worn away many of these structures, the site remains deeply atmospheric. We will visit the beautifully preserved temples dedicated to King Dinh and King Le to learn about the dawn of imperial Vietnam.Next, a short drive brings us to Tam Coc for a delicious local lunch.
Afterward, step aboard a traditional wooden sampan boat for a tranquil cruise down the river. You will glide past emerald rice fields and drift directly beneath three sacred mountain grottoes, surrounded by the colossal limestone peaks that give this region its nickname, the “Halong Bay on Land.” We then stop at Hang Mua (Mua Cave) to challenge ourselves with a climb up 500 stone steps. Your reward at the mountain summit is a breathtaking, 360-degree panoramic vista over the winding rivers, patchwork fields, and karst ridges of Tam Coc. We conclude the afternoon with a scenic, flat 15km bicycle ride along peaceful country paths to explore the historic Thai Vi Temple and the multi-tiered Bich Dong Pagoda, tucked directly into the cliffside.
Day 4: Tam Coc- Halong Bay
Following breakfast, we depart for world-famous Halong Bay. The 160km drive east journeys through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta, offering timeless views of emerald rice paddies, water buffaloes, and local village life. Halong Bay is an awe-inspiring natural wonder and a highly celebrated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, over 3,000 jagged limestone islands and sheer cliffs emerge dramatically from the emerald green waters. Upon arrival at the harbor, step aboard a luxury traditional junk boat and set sail into the magical bay as a delicious lunch is served. You will glide past thousands of sculpted limestone islets rising from the waves like dragons’ teeth. In the afternoon, we disembark for a peaceful sampan boat cruise to explore the authentic floating community of Vung Vieng fishing village. As the sun begins its golden descent, active travelers can grab a paddle to kayak or take a bamboo rowboat through a hidden water tunnel into a secluded lagoon ringed by vibrant coral reefs. Back on board, cap off an unforgettable day with an interactive Vietnamese cooking class and sunset cocktails on the sundeck before unwinding with a gourmet dinner at the ship’s restaurant.
Day 5: Halong Bay- Hanoi
Greet the morning on the water and enjoy a fresh breakfast on deck. Our first exploration of the day takes us ashore to visit one of the bay’s spectacular, cathedral-like limestone grottoes, where you can wander past ancient stalactites and stalagmites beautifully illuminated by natural light. Afterward, we return to the cruise ship to check out of our cabins. Enjoy a relaxing brunch and catch a final, unforgettable glimpse of the towering karst islands as we cruise gracefully back toward the main harbor. Upon docking, our private vehicle awaits to drive you back through the scenic delta countryside to Hanoi for your final evening and overnight stay.
