Vietnam: Meander the Mekong Delta by Bicycle

Day 1 Saigon- Long An- My Tho- Vinh Long

07.00: Meet at your hotel and depart on the one hour drive on HW1 to Long An. Begin your cycle ride exploring a picturesque area of expansive rice paddies, fruit orchards and plenty of small canals. After 2hr cycling we will reach My Tho, a quiet town by the bank of the Mekong River. Lunch break in My Tho. Continue to Vinh Long, which lies between two big branches of the Mekong River. Along the way you will cycle on small paved roads running through a vast expanse of rice fields. On arrival in Cai Be we take an interesting boat trip to cross the mighty Mekong River to a village on a small island in the middle of the river, where we spend the night in a local home. The home stay will be an unforgettable experience and can give you a unique insight into the culture of the locals. A fantastic dinner with local delights is cooked by the family.

Cycling: Approx 45km/Difficulty: Easy/Moderate

Day 2: Cai Be- Vinh Long- Tam Binh- Tra On-Can Tho

Enjoy early morning take a boat to explore the bustling Cai Be floating market. The interesting motorized boat cruise takes us to An Binh Island. Pick up the bikes and enjoy cycling along the country paths under the foliage. Ride past authentic Mekong villages. We stop in Cai Cuong ancient house which was built in 1885 and was owned by the family of Pham Van Bon who was a great local landowner in the olden days. Enjoy tea and have time to chat to the host.

Take the ferry to Vinh Long then continue cycling to Long Phuoc village. On the way visit the Literature Temple, local cottage industries and Mr. Tam Phan’s ancient house. Cycling from Cai Ngang to Tam Binh, along the way we can witness the rural daily life of the local people, agricultural activities, orange orchards, Tam Binh market. Rest during lunch in a local restaurant then continue cycling to Tra On and Binh Minh. Our cycle ride ends for the day in Binh Minh, hop board the bus and transfer to Can Tho, where we spend our night.

Day 3: Can Tho- Cai Rang-Phong Dien- Saigon

Start the day with a 6/6.30am call to visit the Cai Rang floating market. Return to the hotel to check out and begin riding to Phong Dien Floating market and beyond to Binh Thuy. The road to this lesser visited market is virtually traffic free apart from local bikes and motorbikes. The ride takes the back roads which are tranquil, narrow, and surrounded by lush vegetation; we pass through villages and cross wooden bridges. After the morning’s ride, the support bus will pick up the group at the junction with the main road. Transfer to Saigon
